Abstract
Description
Welcome to ENG 609 – Language Learning Materials Development. This module is designed to provide pre-service English language teachers with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, processes, and practices involved in selecting, evaluating, adapting, and developing language learning materials.
Language learning materials play a vital role in facilitating meaningful and effective language instruction. As future educators, students must develop the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions regarding the use of instructional resources that address learners' diverse needs, interests, and learning contexts. This module presents theoretical foundations alongside practical classroom applications to prepare students for real-world teaching situations.
Each lesson follows a learner-centered approach, incorporating engaging activities, guided analysis, concept development, collaborative applications, and assessments that encourage critical thinking and reflective practice. The lessons also integrate principles of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), material evaluation, adaptation strategies, and course book selection to strengthen students' professional competence in language education.
It is hoped that this module will serve not only as a learning resource but also as a practical guide that inspires future English teachers to design meaningful, relevant, and effective instructional materials that promote successful language learning.
