Language anxiety and oral communication skills of BSED English major students

Abstract

The study explores the quantitative relationship between language anxiety and the improvement of oral communication abilities in students majoring in English for Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED). This study employed a descriptive-correlational design. Descriptive research is the most basic sort of investigation that aims to gather information about occurrences occurring at a specific moment in time. A total of 108 BSED English students participated in the study. Findings revealed that language anxiety, which manifests as fear of speaking in class, pronunciation issues, and self-consciousness during interactions, is a substantial impediment to the development of oral communication skills in BSED English major students. The study also looks at possible coping mechanisms and techniques used by students to control their anxiety and enhance their oral communication skills.
