Item Lived experiences of Filipino English as Second Language (ESL) teachers in teaching Asian non-native English speakersCatindoy, Lyn Jhel James (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-01)This qualitative study delves into the experiences of Filipino ESL teachers in Digos City, Philippines, as they teach Asian non-native English speakers. Through interview with 8 teachers, themes like Pedagogical Encounter, Linguistic Diversity, and Conscious Dialogue are explored, revealing challenges and strategies in language instruction. The findings emphasize the significance of culturally responsive teaching practices and respectful communication to foster cross-cultural understanding. Moreover, common English proficiency mistakes among Asian learners are identified, alongside effective teaching strategies like Engagement Exercise and Multimodal learning. The study offers insight for ESL practitioners and policymakers to improve language education.
