Item Household utilities monitoring system using geofence technology with data analyticsSuizo, Clyde Andrie G. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-06)This study was conducted to determine that combining geofence technology into household monitoring systems was an approach to improving utility management and monitoring more efficiently and effectively. While the previously mentioned changes had already been integrated into systems used to monitor household utilities, it was clear that there was a lack of monitoring systems that utilized geofence technology. Such methods were more useful among locals in Don Lorenzo Homes Subdivision, Tres de Mayo, Digos City. As a solution, the monitoring system created in this study achieved the following functions; (1) used a motion sensor as the geofence to cover the entrances and exits of the household with an effective range of 250cm and an effective angle between 60 and 120 degrees, (2) used light and gas sensors integrated into household utilities to gather real-time information with an effective range of 60cm and 20cm respectively, (3) visualized data with the help of bar and line graphs using graphical analytics techniques to display the collected data. Through pilot testing and evaluation, the system gained a 4.2 weighted mean with a remark of GOOD, which demonstrated that employing geofencing techniques increases the efficiency of the homeowner's household utility management. The capstone project stood to make significant contributions to the research field by combining geofence technology and sensors to enhance household utility management. The anticipated benefits in terms of energy efficiency, cost savings, and household utilities management highlighted the project's potential to influence both academic research and practical applications in the smart home domain. The research outcomes could serve as a foundation for further studies, leading to the development of more sophisticated systems and inspiring new approaches to energy efficiency, sustainability, and management.Item Web-based agri-fisheries e-commerce market systemSentillas, Angelito Jr. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-06)This study delves into the conceptualization, development, and implementation of such systems, exploring their potential to connect farmers, fishermen, and consumers directly which addresses the ease of product marketing using the system with map integration. Furthermore, the project sought to provide a user-friendly, buyer homepage which displays all the products, allows the buyer to add products to cart, provides a map which displays all the store location and the routing, and enable the user to create its own shop. Additionally, it allows the seller to add and manage products, and manage orders. It also enables the super admin to manage users, categories, products, and tract the user logs. Moreover, the system has utilized the rapid application development methodology to develop the project. The project achieved its goal of successfully implemented e-commerce system where seller can sell their products and buyers to buy products they want with integrated mapping system where user can view store location and its routing from buyer to the store. This implementation helped our local farmers, fishermen, and consumers by providing a website that allows the user to buy and sell their product online. In addition, this promote a wide range of marketing which give a lot of advantage for both users. The findings and insights gained from the study contribute to advancement of web-based Agri-fisheries e-commerce system, offering practical guidance and recommendation for stakeholders in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.Item Spring onion disease detection and treatment recommendationTalaid, Nikko R. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-06)Spring onion is a delicate crop that demands much attention during its cultivation; diseases such as the purple blotch and leaf blight affect spring onion crops and, in any case, prevention of these diseases is rather complicated to detect. Study aims to diagnose the diseases correctly and make suitable recommendations on the treatment needed. The researcher created an app that help in identifying the spring onion disease and would offer recommendations on how to treat such disease. In developing the app, the researcher used Android studio and Google Colab for datasets training. The technique used in choosing the survey participants is simple purposive random sampling and self-constructed checklist based on the ISO 9124 Likert scale to rate the app's functionality, reliability, and usability. The app is ideal for small and big farmlands, especially in regions without an internet connection, and during an experimental test, it gained an accuracy of 90% in the purple blotch and 93% in leaf blight-captured crop diseases within a 3-inch range. The significant results of this study include the application's ability to detect two types of diseases, namely purple blotch and leaf blight, and its ability to provide personalized treatments, such as recommendations, chemical treatments, and care tips, based on the specific disease detected. The app's contribution to the farming community is its ability to detect crop diseases early, simplify disease detection techniques, increase harvests, decrease chemical use, and prevent minor spring onion problems that could result in major outbreaks and damage large farmlands.Item Agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices of SME managers as predictors of organizational performance in Davao del SurBusa, Rosemarie N. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)This study aimed to assess the agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices of small and medium enterprise (SME) managers in Davao del Sur and their relationship to organizational performance. It employed a descriptive-correlational research design, collecting data from 90 respondents through structured surveys. Statistical tools used included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and correlational analysis. Findings revealed that the majority of SME managers in Davao del Sur are middle-aged, male, and married, with high educational attainment. Their businesses are primarily small enterprises operating within various municipalities, typically in operation for 5 to 15 years, with modest profitability and limited formal managerial training. In terms of competencies, SME managers exhibited very high levels of organizing and leading, learning, opportunity recognition, commitment, strategic, and financial management competencies. Additionally, ethical business practices, including ethical decision-making, ethical leadership, and ethical awareness and training, were also rated very high. Organizational performance, assessed through financial performance and employee satisfaction, was also found to be very high, though some variability was noted. Correlational analysis indicated a significant relationship between agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices, suggesting that managers with stronger competencies tend to uphold higher ethical standards. However, no significant relationships were found between ethical business practices and organizational performance or between agri-entrepreneurial competencies and organizational performance, suggesting that these factors alone may not directly determine business success.Item Analysis of the factors to sugarcane production and farmers' planting intentions in the provinces of Davao del Sur, Sarangani and South CotabatoGranada, Ijade T. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)The study aimed to analyze the factors to sugarcane production and planting intentions of sugarcane farmers in Davao del Sur, Sarangani and South Cotabato. The study utilized a descriptive-quantitative survey research design, administered to the 89 selected medium-large scale sugarcane farmers using sampling technique. The study used statistical tools to analyze and describe the study. The results showed that the sector was largely composed of aging farmers with limited formal education, which may hinder the adoption of modern farming techniques. Farm-related issues such as hilly/rolling terrains and dependence on rainwater heightened vulnerability to climate variability. Economic and social factors highlight farmers' strong influence sugarcane production. Consistently, correlational analysis showed that economic factors had the strongest and appeared most significant to farmers' planting intentions. Multiple regression confirmed economic factors as the sole predictor on farmers' planting intentions. Based on the findings, the Department of Agriculture and State Universities and Colleges should launch youth-targeted agricultural programs in modern sugarcane farming techniques. The government agencies should introduce mechanization suited for hilly/rolling terrains including irrigation projects to reduce reliance on rainwater and provide production support programs and policy efforts in strengthening market prices, minimizing costs and access to affordable credit for the sustainability of sugarcane farming.Item Android-based classroom attendance monitoring system using QR technology with SMS notificationGenobisa, Kenneth N. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024)This paper introduces an innovative Android-based classroom attendance monitoring system aimed at overcoming the limitations of traditional manual tracking methods within educational environments. By harnessing SMS notifications and QR codes, the system seeks to enhance both accuracy and efficiency. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-05)The evaluation of tray solar dryer for cacao beans was conducted at Davao del Sur State College (DSSC). The testing of samples was dried in the tray solar dryer in 2 batches operated separately for trials. It was revealed that the moisture content of the samples was reduced from 48% to 6.5% for the batch of operation same as the second batch reduced from 48.3% to 6.5%. It was found out that the total mean of drying rate in the second batch (2.48 g/min) was relatively high than the first batch (1.97 g/min). For the drying capacity, it was observed that the second batch (297.71 g/hr) was relatively high than the first batch (285.07 g/hr). In addition, the drying recovery revealed that the first batch (96%) was relatively high than the second batch (95%). It also observed that the drying efficiency in the first batch (4.5%) was higher than the second batch (3.7%). While the air flow rate of first batch (4.83 m3/min) was lower than second batch (5.35 m3/min). In terms of drying time, the second batch with two layers required less time (48 hours) than the first batch (60 hours). According to its financial analysis, using 4 trays had a higher return on investment of tray solay dryer for cacao beans of 80% and a payback period of 1.2 years than using 6 trays, which had 73% and 1.4 years of payback period. In conclusion, the result of the parameters in the two batches had difference from each other due to weather condition every day. It varies from time to time because of the temperature that was uncontrolled.Item Resources and infrastructure in poultry farming in Matanao, Davao del SurAlquisar, Rose Anne T. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-05)The main focus of the study was to determine the resources and infrastructure in poultry farming. The study was conducted with 15 registered poultry farming in Matanao, Davao del Sur. The result disclosed that majority of the respondents aged 41-60 years old, males, married. The result implied that in the poultry production type, it is evident that all 15 respondents are engaged in broilers/meat production and the number of years in poultry farming, the distribution is notable for its concentration in the 8 to 10 years range, with half of the respondents falling within this category. The resources and infrastructure of the poultry farming has no significant difference between the business profile in terms of a number of farmer, thus the null hypothesis was accepted. The substantial majority (86%) rely on loans, and a smaller portion (13%) access credit through cooperatives and 93.3% of respondents reporting this as their primary source of financial support. In terms of the types of feeds used, the data indicate that all respondent (100%) rely on commercially feeds and (100%) relies on water for their poultry farming operations and the duration of water testing, all respondents, again represented by a frequency of 15 and a percentage of 100%, conducted tests for a fixed period of 1 hour only and regarding the available mode of transport, it is noteworthy that all respondents, exclusively rely on open trucks for poultry transportation.Item GIS-based spatial mapping inventory of agricultural machineries in Bansalan, Davao del SurCulango, Arah May Q. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-06)Agricultural machinery has become an integral part of agricultural sector today, and has revolutionized the way of farming and production. The study conducted to assess the status of all Agricultural machineries in the area. This study was conducted at the municipality of Bansalan, Davao del Sur last November 2023 to January 2024. It aimed to assess and determine the status of all agricultural machineries in Bansalan, Davao del Sur. A complete enumeration sampling design was used in data gathering among the eleven (11) barangays with identified agricultural machineries in the municipality of Bansalan, Davao del Sur. A survey questionnaire was used to determine the owners' profile and machinery's profile using the Global Positioning System (GPS), the coordinates of the location of all machinery storage in the municipality was gathered. Results showed that 90% of the agricultural machineries were functional while only 10% were under-maintenance and non-operational. Results showed that there was 85% of registered and 15% of unregistered machineries. These results may be useful as a source of monitoring and evaluation. Moreover, registration status of the agricultural machinery need improve regulatory compliance. The inventory was utilized to monitor the usage of agricultural machinery over time, assess the impact of interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of agricultural programs and policies. Thus, the findings may be relevant in the development of municipal legislation wherein barangay or municipal officials may use the study to propose and implement projects such as mechanization level and index mapping in specific agricultural operations in the municipality to improve the production in the municipality. Also, promote Agricultural and Fisheries Mechanization Law of 2018.Item Water consumption and growth of pechay in Kratky method at different depth level of nutrient solution under shaded conditionCanon, Kirby S. (Davao del Sur State College, 2024-05)Green crops are currently cultivated using a hydroponic method. However, the production cost is quite expensive due to the higher cost of commercial nutrient solutions. The purpose of the thesis study was to explore the possibility of reducing the quantity of nutrient solutions and their impact on the growth of pechay. The study was carried out using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments replicated three times. T1 (2 inches depth), T2 (3 inches depth), and T3 (4 inches depth). The collected data were analyzed using a One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of 5%. The Least Significant Difference (LSD) test was employed to ascertain the variations between the different treatments. The analysis indicated that the treatments revealed significantly varied in root length with a P-value of 0.0010. Further, the analysis indicates that there is no statistically significant difference in terms of mean daily water consumption, plant height, number of leaves, breadth of leaves, plant yield, mean daily difference temperature nutrient solution, and mean daily difference pH level, as indicated with P-values of 0.03272, 0.3787, 0.4376, 0.3787, 0.0727, 0.2997, and 0.4029 respectively.
