Credit access from microfinance institutions on farm performance among small-scale mango farmers in Davao del Sur
Girasol, Charnilyn Mae C. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)
The research sought to assess the influence of credit accessibility from microfinance institutions on small-scale mango farmers in Davao del Sur. A cross-sectional and descriptive research approach was employed to evaluate the objectives of the study. The study was initially conducted with 348 respondents selected by stratified random sampling. The statistical analysis, employing methods such as frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, and regression, revealed that the majority of small-scale mango producers were aged between 36 and 51, primarily male, married, and possessed high school diplomas. The majority consist of 4 to 6 household members, who are Cebuano, and possess 1 to 2 hectares of agricultural property. All farmers solicited a loan, with the majority obtaining cash credit and repaying it in currency. Almost all were subjected to interest charges and required to provide collateral to obtain credit. Most small-scale farmers obtained loans from microfinance institutions, however, only fifty percent of this population invested the funds in mango cultivation. Better access to capital and higher productivity per hectare were two of the most important economic benefits. The information gathered showed that the degrees of participation and cooperation among small-scale mango growers were seen as modest. Moreover, there was a significant association between economic advantages and financial performance, as well as a notable association between engagement/collaboration and the financial performance of small-scale farmers. Further, all small-scale producers identified climate change, pests, and diseases as problems encountered in mango production. Based on the results, it is highly recommended to establish comprehensive support systems combing education, technology, and financial assistance to aid small-scale farmers adapt to climate change, pests, and diseases. To provide farmers with more authority and make them more resilient, government agencies, agricultural organizations, and financial institutions need to work together.

Trend analysis on the resource use efficiency of block farm and cooperative schemes in sugarcane production
Alcasid, Cleo Jane A. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)
The primary aim of the study was to determine if there is significant difference between the resource-use efficiency of sugarcane production between block farm members and cooperative members with 216 farmers from Kiblawan and Hagonoy. A descriptive-comparative research design was utilized last December 2024- February 2025. Data was analyzed using Frequency Distribution, Mean, Net Profit Margin, Cobb-Douglas production function, Marginal Value Productivity, and Resource Use Efficiency. Majority of the respondents were 52-67 years old, male, and almost all of them are married, and reached tertiary education. They dedicate their entire landholding to sugarcane farming, all of the farmers had been into sugarcane production for 5 years and above, while 68.50% are members of sugarcane farmer cooperative, and all of them have undergone trainings related to sugarcane production. Farmers who are members of sugarcane cooperatives spend more than their counterparts from block farms in terms of labor cost per hectare. Even with higher cost of production, cooperative members still reported slightly higher net income, and Net Profit Margin of 0.18, and with this, the Benefit: Cost Ratio is also higher for farmers who are members of cooperative at 0.23. All the variables associated in sugarcane production for farms of cooperative members are overutilized, and that production can be increased by reducing the units of inputs. On the other hand, for farmers under block farm system, there is a mix of underutilization and overutilization of variables. Labor, land preparation and transportation costs were underutilized, while the rest of the costs associated with sugarcane production are overutilized. To increase efficiency of sugarcane production under block farms, there is a need to increase the unit of inputs for labor, land preparation and transportation costs to maximize productivity, whereas inputs such as machinery and equipment, fertilizers and pesticides area overutilized.

Agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices of SME managers as predictors of organizational performance in Davao del Sur
Busa, Rosemarie N. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)
This study aimed to assess the agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices of small and medium enterprise (SME) managers in Davao del Sur and their relationship to organizational performance. It employed a descriptive-correlational research design, collecting data from 90 respondents through structured surveys. Statistical tools used included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and correlational analysis. Findings revealed that the majority of SME managers in Davao del Sur are middle-aged, male, and married, with high educational attainment. Their businesses are primarily small enterprises operating within various municipalities, typically in operation for 5 to 15 years, with modest profitability and limited formal managerial training. In terms of competencies, SME managers exhibited very high levels of organizing and leading, learning, opportunity recognition, commitment, strategic, and financial management competencies. Additionally, ethical business practices, including ethical decision-making, ethical leadership, and ethical awareness and training, were also rated very high. Organizational performance, assessed through financial performance and employee satisfaction, was also found to be very high, though some variability was noted. Correlational analysis indicated a significant relationship between agri-entrepreneurial competencies and ethical business practices, suggesting that managers with stronger competencies tend to uphold higher ethical standards. However, no significant relationships were found between ethical business practices and organizational performance or between agri-entrepreneurial competencies and organizational performance, suggesting that these factors alone may not directly determine business success.

Analysis of the factors to sugarcane production and farmers' planting intentions in the provinces of Davao del Sur, Sarangani and South Cotabato
Granada, Ijade T. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-06)
The study aimed to analyze the factors to sugarcane production and planting intentions of sugarcane farmers in Davao del Sur, Sarangani and South Cotabato. The study utilized a descriptive-quantitative survey research design, administered to the 89 selected medium-large scale sugarcane farmers using sampling technique. The study used statistical tools to analyze and describe the study. The results showed that the sector was largely composed of aging farmers with limited formal education, which may hinder the adoption of modern farming techniques. Farm-related issues such as hilly/rolling terrains and dependence on rainwater heightened vulnerability to climate variability. Economic and social factors highlight farmers' strong influence sugarcane production. Consistently, correlational analysis showed that economic factors had the strongest and appeared most significant to farmers' planting intentions. Multiple regression confirmed economic factors as the sole predictor on farmers' planting intentions. Based on the findings, the Department of Agriculture and State Universities and Colleges should launch youth-targeted agricultural programs in modern sugarcane farming techniques. The government agencies should introduce mechanization suited for hilly/rolling terrains including irrigation projects to reduce reliance on rainwater and provide production support programs and policy efforts in strengthening market prices, minimizing costs and access to affordable credit for the sustainability of sugarcane farming.

The result showed that small-scale sugarcane farmers and the organizations are typically informed about and satisfied with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Nonetheless, insufficient financial resources impede their ability to fully benefit. The farming organizations exhibit a democratic leadership approach and equitable gender representation, perhaps enhancing marketing initiatives. Although both farmers and organizations convey contentment, organizations exhibit a greater degree of satisfaction due to their increased involvement in program implementation. Effective corporate social responsibility programs include livelihood support, skills development, improved agricultural methods, and market accessibility. Based on the findings, the Sugar Regulatory Administration could enhance its monitoring and evaluation to ensure that growers derive maximum benefit from these programs. Enhancing awareness and increasing the accessibility of financial support could alleviate the resource limitations encountered by both farmers and organizations.

Species composition, diversity, abundance, and microhabitat preferences of anuran species in the Miral river, Bansalan, Davao del Sur
Ubat, Drahcir E. (Davao del Sur State College, 2025-05)
A comprehensive anuran survey was conducted across three sites along the Miral River in Bansalan, Davao del Sur—Barangay Managa (upstream), Barangay Tubod (midstream), and Barangay Poblacion Uno (downstream). Using 270 man-hours of cruising and mark-release-technique, the survey documented anuran species, assessed habitat associations, and generated baseline data on Mindanao's amphibian diversity. A total of 104 anuran individuals were recorded, representing six species and four families, with 67% being non-endemics and 33% endemic to the Mindanao faunal region. Limnonectes magnus was noted as nearly threatened. Species diversity was highest upstream (H' = 1.52, S = 6), moderate midstream (H' = 1.05, S = 4), and lowest downstream (H = 0.43, S = 2), but were not statistically significant (p = 0.2193). While species composition varied between sites (p = 0.1875). Most anurans utilized both aquatic and terrestrial microhabitats, indicating microhabitat overlap. This study revealed that Rhinella marina was strongly linked to warmer water, higher pH, and elevated air temperature—conditions typical of downstream habitats. Conversely, upstream habitats, with dense canopy, abundant moss, leaf litter, and minimal disturbance, supported species like Polypedates leucomystax and Kaloula pulchra. Obviously, principal component analysis revealed that elevation was the most influential environmental factor with strong association habitat variables affecting anuran preferences. Endemic species were associated with intact forest areas, though signs of forest clearing for agriculture indicated environmental stress. The dominance of invasive species and the low presence of the near-threatened Limnonectes magnus underscore the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect native amphibians and restore natural habitats in the Miral River ecosystem.
